25.06.2022 Abenteuerliche Levada Velha dos Cedros

Verlauf: Abstieg vom Fanalparkplatz auf dem normalen Weg Richtung Levada Nova dos Cedros. Bei der Kreuzung mit der Levada Velha dos Cedros zuerst entgegen der ursprünglichen Fliessrichtung Richtung Madre. Bei der ersten Bachquerung findet man Überreste der alten Levada sowie eine gut erhaltene Levadabrücke.
Danach über einen Lombo zur nächsten und übernächsten Bachquerung, wo das Restwasser abfliesst. Bei der folgenden Bachquerung fliesst relativ viel Wasser Richtung Madre der Levada Nova dos Cedros ab, ab hier wird es etwas unbequem auf dem weichen Levadamäuerchen, zudem ist es hier ziemlich nass.
Es gibt später keine klassische Madre, es sind mehrere kleine Rinnsale und Quellen, die gefasst werden. Aber hier ist ist es wirklich sehr idyllisch!
Zurück auf dem gleichen Weg bis zur Querung mit dem Abstiegsweg und weiter in der ehemaligen Fliessrichtung.
Es wird zeitweise etwas unwegsam, aber im Moment noch unproblematisch.
Man erreicht eine wunderschöne Mauerpassage, ziemlich ausgesetzt und über eine alte Treppe zu erreichen. Danach sind die Überreste weiter oben in die Felsen gehauen, der Weg führt etwas tiefer.
Jetzt wechseln gut begehbare Passagen mit sehr ausgesetzten Abschnitten, hier muss man mit höchster Konzentration gehen.
Ein kleiner, teilweise verfallener Tunnel könnte man fast übersehen, vermutlich war das ein Stichtunnel zu einer Quelle im Berg.
Nach kurzer Zeit steht man auf einem Lombo, hier hatten wir das Gefühl, dass man auf dem Lombo zur Levada Nova dos Cedros hätte absteigen können. Die Levada Velha dos Cedros geht zunächst weiter in weniger steilem Gelände, ein paar Bachpassagen sind ziemlich zugewachsen, ebenso ein paar enge Balkonpassagen, die müssen vorsichtig begangen werden!
Bald geht man einem Metallzaun entlang, der teilweise defekt ist und der immer wieder Stolperfallen bietet. Die Levada Velha dos Cedros biegt dann Richtung Nordost weg, aber ein Weg war nicht zu erkennen. Hier irrten wir einen Moment herum und fanden dann zum Glück eine schwache Wegspur Richtung Levada Nova dos Cedros.
Wenn wir es irgendwie geschafft hätten, der Levada zu folgen, wären wir bald in offeneres Gelände gekommen und wären bei einem Picknickplatz gelandet, wo auch die verfallene Levada do Lombo Gordo, die früher als Zwillingslevada zur Levada Velha dos Cedros Richtung Zielort der heutigen Levada Nova dos Cedros oberhalb von Ribeira da Janela bzw. Eira da Achada führte.
Wir standen dann irgendwann auf der Levada Nova dos Cedros, froh, den steilen Abstieg und den Irrgarten hinter uns gelassen zu haben.
Ab hier war die Orientierung dann eindeutig, gegen die Fliessrichtung der Levada Nova dos Cedros bis zum alternativen Auf-/Abstieg zum Fanal, der speziell für die Unterhaltsarbeiten an der Levada Nova dos Cedros erstellt wurde. Ein wunderschöner Weg, auf dem man wiederum die Levada Velha dos Cedros kreuzt und an ein paar sehr idyllischen Plätzchen vorbeikommt.
Irgendwann steht man dann plötzlich wieder auf der Fanalstrasse und fast wieder beim Parkplatz.
Distanz: 14.8 Km, 405 Hm Aufstieg, 405 Hm Abstieg

Start: 10.25 Fanal

Ende: 18.10 Fanal

Zustand: Der Abstieg vom Fanal über die meist glitschigen Holzbohlen ist etwas mühsam
Die Levada Velha dos Cedros bis zur Madre ist eindeutig, wenn auch nicht immer ganz unproblenmatisch. Der Abschnitt von der zweiten Bachquerung bis zur Madre ist nur mit viel Vorsicht zu gehen.
Der Abschnitt ab dem Abstiegsweg ist teilweise zugewachsen und mit Baumstämmen versperrt. Einige Stellen sind extrem schmal und ausgesetzt mit Felsüberhängen, hier mussten wir teilweise auf den Knien kriechen.
Den ersten 'safety exit' über den Lombo haben wir nicht genutzt, aber es war beruhigend, eine Abstiegsmöglichkeit zu haben, falls es nicht mehr weitergegangen wäre.
Der letzte begehbare Abschnitt mit dem Metallzaun ist etwas mühsam (Stolpergefahr).
Unser Abstieg zur Levada Nova dos Cedros war sehr unübersichtlich und steil. Vielleicht hätten wir uns zum Picknickplatz durchschlagen müssen!?
Die Levada Nova dos Cedros war dann nach dem oberen Weg entspannend, der alternative Abstieg steil, aber wunderschön.
