Beschreibung: Wanderung von der Fortuna Bay nach Stromness


Bemerkungen: Auf den Spuren von Ernest Shackleton (letzte Etappe seiner Überquerung Südgeorgiens 1916)
Shackelton und seine Mannschaft blieben 1915 bei der versuchten transantarktischen Expedition mit der Endurance im Weddelmeer im Packeis stecken und verloren das Schiff.
Nach einer abenteuerlichen Fahrt auf einer Eisscholle und einem Übersetzen mit den verbleibenden 3 Rettungsbooten schafften sie es nach Elephant Island.
Von hier machten sich Shackelton mit 5 Männern auf Richtung Südgeorgien, welches sie nach 16 Tagen bei widrigsten Bedingungen erreichten.
Allerdings landeten sie auf der südwestlichen Seite der Insel, die Walfangstationen lagen aber auf der nordöstlichen Seite.
So machten sie sich auf einen letzte beschwerlichen Marsch über die schnee- und eisbedeckten Berge Südgeorgien und erreichten nach 2 Tagen die Walfangstation Stromness.
Von hier holte er Hilfe in Puerto Williams, und es gelang ihm im August 2016, alle Männer auf Elephant Island zu retten.
